Chambray + Hunters

I could not imagine fall without my Hunter boots. I love wearing these boots with jeans, dresses, and athletic wear. When the weather is chilly, I have cable knit boot socks to help insulate the boots. I was first introduced to Hunters when I lived in Charleston. The city would flood like crazy and these were the only boots that would save us when walking to class. For fall days, this is the perfect outfit especially when playing in the leaves or picking wildflowers. This dress has become a weekly staple for my wardrobe.IMG_3040IMG_3042IMG_3055IMG_3083IMG_3065

Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving! I wrote a blog post on being grateful about a month ago, that is just as true today as it was when I wrote it. This post is one of the more difficult ones to write as I reflect on the word thankful. As I am at home surrounded by family and friends that I adore, I am overwhelmed by how thankful I am. The only noun that really describes this year is growth.

givethanks

I am thankful for the opportunities that have came my way this year. Some I thought were not for me, but the people in my life knew better. I just needed a little encouragement from those closest to me to take on a new challenge.

I am thankful for friends. This year my friend group grew from 4 to 14! Moving to a new city is hard, and it took some time for me to find my place here. It is amazing how much more fun life is when you have friends by your side.

I am thankful for creativity. In a world full of boring black outfits and crunching numbers, I am thankful to have an outlet to express my creative side.

I am very thankful for you! Thank you for taking a few minutes out of your Thanksgiving to read my little blog. I hope Sprinkle of Glam becomes a happy place for you!

Each year my family goes around the table and expresses what we are thankful for, each year I struggle with what to say. This year is going to be exceptionally tough to express just one thing!

What are you thankful for this year?

Boots

I cannot think of a more iconic shoe, than the boot for fall and winter. For early fall, boots with dresses and skirts work for the season. When it begins to be a little colder, I wear skinny jeans tucked in with boots. Once full on winter hits, layering wool and boot socks keep my feet warm with any outfit. I especially love wearing fleece lined leggings to keep warm.

Riding Boots

My go to brand for riding boots is Frye. I have purchased other brands, including cheaper options, but these boots last and can withstand several seasons. I typically take my boots to be polished or resoled after the season to keep them in top shape. I started out with the Paige boots and eventually expanded my collection to include the black Melissa Button and this year the cognac Melissa Button back zip. I could not be happier with my boots and typically wear these everyday starting in October until March.

Rain Boots

Even though I love my Frye’s, I cannot wear them in snow or layers of fall leaves. During inclement weather, I wear my Hunter rain boots. I purchased the boots with the adjustable back buckle, this gives me more room to add boot socks to keep warm. Through rain or snow, these boots have been a staple in my wardrobe for the past few years. I even wore these on a ski trip to colorado, with boot socks of course to keep me toasty! I also use these boots for decoration in my apartment. The dark green color is perfect for Christmas decor!

Girl’s Night in Leather

Who doesn’t love a fun girl’s night? This is my go to dress for Fall/Winter for girl’s night. This dress can easily be worn with tights and a cardigan or tissue turtleneck for colder weather. I wore a fun statement necklace, booties, and a pink lip to accent this look. IMG_3181IMG_3214IMG_3263IMG_3188IMG_3209IMG_3219IMG_3283

How to Put Together an Apple Cider Bar Cart

I finally received my Social Society bar cart and I could not love it more. I have been dreaming of different set ups for fall for my bar cart even before I purchased it. I put together an apple cider bar cart that is perfect for hosting friendsgiving or thanksgiving. This easy set up will be visited by all of your guests at your next get together. I decorated my cart with a West Elm faux deer head adored with a Pottery Barn fall wreath, a Pier One cake stand (currently on sale!) to hold the liquor, Oh My Deer! print, my Hunter boots, C.Wonder napkins (sold out), and of course a mum.

For an apple cider bar cart you will need:

  • Coffee Mugs
  • Paper Straws
  • Cocktail Napkins
  • Hot & Cold Apple Cider
  • Marshmallows
  • Caramels
  • Liquor (Goldschlager, Bourbon, Whiskey Cream, etc)
  • Whipped Cream
  • Cinnamon Sticks

Encourage your guests to mix and match with different liquors in their apple cider. I personally enjoy Goldschlagar, marshmallows, and a cinnamon stick in mine.

Burgundy Polka Dots

Polka dots have always been a staple in my wardrobe, when I saw this top I knew it would soon be a favorite. Dressed up with pixie pants or down with jeans, this versatile top is great for fall. I paired this top with a navy fluted skirt, the shape of this skirt is a little more interesting than your typical pencil skirt. This outfit transitions well from office attire to happy hour. From sweaters to lipstick, I cannot get enough of this burgundy color for fall!

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

How did Halloween sneak up on us so quickly? It seems like it was just labor day. I love Halloween, any holiday where you get to dress up is a favorite. I typically try to find clever costumes that are not hard to put together and budget friendly. With my apartment decorated for the holiday and a festive cocktail in the works, all I am missing is a costume. I am hoping for some crisp fall air for fun Halloween festivities this weekend.

Here are a few last minute costume ideas:

Maxi Maxi

With the weather cooling off, maxi dress season is almost over. Nashville had an unseasonably warm day last week and I took the opportunity to wear my favorite maxi for the last time. This backless number was perfect for a dinner date. I am swooning over the heavy embroidery and details on the back.IMG_1010IMG_0986IMG_1022IMG_1030IMG_1001

Fall Touches On A Budget

Even though I am currently renting, I still try to make my apartment a home by decorating for the holidays. It can be overwhelming walking through the Halloween and fall aisles especially on a budget. In a small space such as an apartment, it does not take many decorations to complete the look, and decor can be reused year after year. I found the majority of my decor items from discount stores such as TJ Maxx or Target. 2014-10-02_0001

A festive wreath will welcome guests upon entering your home. I love this fall foliage wreath from Pottery Barn, because it can be used all fall not just during Halloween. 2014-10-02_0002

No apartment is complete without a glittery pumpkin! I found this sparkly gem from T.J. Maxx. To make your home smell like the season, add a pumpkin spice candle. I added a stack of fall magazines to my coffee table as well. 2014-10-02_0003

With just a few items you can make your apartment feel more like fall. I found all of these items under a $100. While decorating enjoy this fall cocktail. More details on my fall bar coming soon!

Red hair + Red Lips

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
My whole life, I have been told redheads cannot wear red lipstick, it seemed everyone had an opinion. I had always accepted it. However, with my recent birthday I decided to mix up my beauty routine and add a classic tube of red lipstick. Why should I allow others to tell me what I can and cannot pull off? I love the results and will be adding this to look to my makeup routine, perfect for a girls night or date! IMG_9832

The trick to pulling off the red lip is to find the right shade. I suggest buying a few different shades and trying out the one that works best for you. Definitely purchase from the drugstore first, once you decide you can pull it off then I would splurge on higher end lipsticks. Currently coveting this Chanel red. If you feel lipstick is too bold, a stain or red lip gloss may work. Also, prep your lips by applying chapstick first.

Statements pieces and fun shoes never hurt to complete a red lip. Red lipstick can dress up even the most basic of outfits. Don’t follow the rules and rock red lip even with red hair!
